When I saw the title of this poem at first time,I think the poem will be about a man who saves his kingdom and becomes a hero.

I agree with you, i have read the story a little. The author describes him when he was a kid as perfect and prudent that he was the only deserved heir to his father who was a great king. After the death of his father, the country is still thriving under his wise rule.

I'm not sure what poem you guys are talking about, but I guess it is Beowulf. I believe that Beowulf will be a great king of a country, as a successor of his dad. I also think that he will save lives of many people in his cities. However, I think he is going to die at the end. I read few pages, and found out that Beowulf is very proud of himself. He is often not humble and loves to show off himself in the public, even in front of the king of another country. Although he is a great man, he shouldn't brag about it. At least he should know when to be humble. Also when Ulfench (I'm not sure for the spelling) was jealous of him and talked about his failure, Beowulf made an excuse. This might be true but I think he should know how to acknowledge his failures.
I believe his haughtiness will call his death because in many other epics, the hero dies because of his pride. The epic of the Gilgamesh is one of the example. Gilgamesh thought he was great and wanted to be immortal like the god. Yet he failed at the end, and got punishment for attempting to be the god. Like this epic, Beowulf will some day, in the novel, face the challenge and learn how to admit his fault and short comings, or die because of his pride.
Lastly, I think that Ulfench guy will die because of his jealousy. He will try to stop or hinder Beowulf from achieving many fames because of jealousy. But at last, he will fail and realize he was as good as him.

I guess you guys are talking about Beowulf. I don't know anything about this story, so when I first read the title of it, I thought it was a story about wolves. And since our topic question is about hero, I guessed that the wolf will be the hero, or a character in the story will be a hero. I am still not sure about the whole story yet, but I did realize that my prediction was wrong.

Because our main topic right now is about heroes, it was pretty obvious this story was going to be about a hero. But because the title sounds like an animal, specifically a wolf, I automatically thought it was going to be about wolves.

I also thought that the story would be about wolves, but if that is actually true, then what does wolves have to do with our theme of hero? Does the wolf become a hero within the tribe or it is a person named Beowulf become a hero in the story? WELL I guess we are going to find out when we read it.

I don't know much about Beowulf, but I think the story could go either way. The poem is in the form of an epic, and epics usually end with the hero victorious after defeating their main villain, who is obviously evil through and through and not morally grey. I knew about Beowulf because i lived in a place where he's revered as a folk hero, so I had a little background info on the guy before I started reading the poem, so :3

Im going to talk about my prediction on the clown punk, becuz nerdira didnt specifically mentioned which one. So, when i first encountered this poem title, the basic setting was the medieval era because the word "clown" really just reminds me of the european medieval time. Also, i thought it was going to be author's impression on a clown who, always move ariund different towns, one day showed up in his town.

I've heard of beowulf story when I was younger but I never really thought that it involved a hero, i had no idea that it was written in epic form. By the title i always thought that it's about a man who is friends with wolves, basically story that describes relationship between a man and pack of wolves. I could never possibly imagine that killing and tribes were involved in the story. But as i know now it's totally different from what i portrayed.

I think you guys are talking Beowulf. At first I just think this is a deity using his power to save the world. People wrote this poem to emphasize the power of God. However, after I reading half of the poem, I know Beowulf is a hero killing monster twice to protect Danmark. He is a legendary person with strong power and smart brain. After that he managed all the country until he dead because of fight with a dragon. Except his power, he is also respected by his personality. He is a person who has friendly behavior. I think peopel keep this epic to emphasize the model of a hero.

I believe Beowulf will become a hero (obviously) by killing the monster, Grendel. As everyone said, I guess Beowulf will die at the end of the story. But just by reading until line 600 something, I think he will get murdered by a guy named Unferth because first, he's jealous, and second, Beowulf acts like a jerk kind of. I admit that he's brave but he sometimes brags too much about himself and is arrogant. Sometimes, that angers other people and causes them to eventually commit a bad action. Also, he offends Unferth in that he says, if you claim yourself brave, why didn't you stop Grendel before I came. So there is a high chance that Unferth kills Beowulf in the end. Or, there's also a chance that there's another monster waiting for Beowulf and he might not be able to handle it especially as he gets older. I don't know, we'll see

After reading up to page 55… I can easily predict that Beowulf will manage to kill Grendel. (maybe..) In the story, it did mention that many pervious "heroes" attempted to kill Grendel, but failed due to feasts and alcohol. !! since the people knew that Grendel always launches a surprise attack during a feast, Beowulf might take that as an advantage, maybe an ambush?.. As long as Beowulf doesn't make the same mistakes as the previous "attempters", he should be able to kill Grendel with ease. In the story, Beowulf is described as someone who is experienced in killing monsters and beasts; therefore Grendel will probably just be another monster to slay. Staying on my path of prediction.. i think a different conflict or obstacle will happen. Killing off Grendel will be too much of an easy task to end the story. Maybe the story will twist?… maybe Grendel is a monster with extreme powers just as how the story depicts him as.

As many hero stories have their heroes' names as their titles, for example Herculues, Robin Hood, etc., I guess Beowulf would be quite similar to any other hero story as well. There will be a noble hero of special birth who will go through hardships but prevail at the end, defeating the evil enemy. But as for now, reading up to page 55, the concept of justice through revenge, most likely death, and Unferth's appearance made me make 2 predictions. One is that once Beowulf kills Grendel, another major antagonist from Grendel's side will come up and try to avenge Grendel's death, although I'm not sure if Beowulf or that antagonist will win this time. The other is that Unferth will play a key role of endangering Beowulf, probably by betraying him since Unferth is on the side of the good guys.

When I saw the title "Beowulf", the first thing that came up in my mind is "hero". When I was young, I read a really brief story about Beowulf, I still remember, because it was really interesting to me. But I never knew that it was involved with killing. So when I was reading the story, that was quite a shock to me. Although I still do not get some parts of the story, I think it will get more and more entertaining.

Well you see here kids when I heard "Beowulf" I heard "Beowolf" so I thought it would be about an ancient mythology about the legend of the werewolf and the wolf man kinda like wolverine.
Well so far, the story seems very fast pace as if like a short story, at page 55, we are already at the fighting scene. Considering the length of the leftover story, I guess Beowulf is not going to win in his first try with the beast of Grandel. Also, Grandel is showing off alot, and I mean alot. It is so much to the point that it won't be weird if Beowulf loses. In most literature I have seen and read, too much showing off can equal doom, so maybe it could be true how Grandel can win initially then, as the protagonist, Beowulf will manage to get the revenge.
