Q: Can desire be suppressed by force?
A: Desire can never be suppressed by any means. It is a human nature to fulfill their needs in some method. People think that they are losing freedom and rights when their desire is suppressed by force. For example, the Arab Spring was caused by the desire for freedom despite the dictatorship that lasted for 40 years. Marguerite in Scarlet Pimpernel decided not to help Chauvelin even though he forced her to do so.
Q: Do you think self control is essential for success?
A: It depends on situation.
If we are on a diet, then self control is necessary to resist ourselves from eating unhealthy food.
If Marguerite in Scarlet Pimpernel wanted to look for her husband even though she knew she was weak and there was a storm in sea, then self control is a bad choice.
Q: What makes self control stronger?
A: Our desire to do a certain task makes self control stronger. For example, the member of Scarlet Pimpernel had a strong desire to have fun with saving French aristocrats even though their actions risked their lives.
Q: How does self control affect the society?
A: Lack of self control will mostly lead to negative effect in society. For example, Marguerite did not like the family of St. Cyr and wanted to harm them. When the French Revolution happened, she denounced them thoughtlessly by telling that they were working with Austria to end the revolution. As a result, the French revolutionists executed that family.
