I think the author of Beowulf is very religious guy because in book there were a lot of reference of God, faith, and Christianity. After Beowulf victory from battle, he always gives that victory to God. Also there were a lot of lines that showed respect to God. So I think author is religious guy.

I agree with you guys that the author of Beowulf is both emotional and Christian. Throughout the poem, the author had been emotional in various ways by switching from one mood to another whenever something happened. For instance, when one of the characters died, the author of this story used gloomy, sad tones to express his sadness. However, when Beowulf succeeded in vanquishing the evil, the author used jovial tones to express his contentment. The author is also considered a faithful Christian because he often mentions God whenever something happened. Lastly, the author is also violent because he used many gory images to describe certain deaths of the characters or the conflict between the characters.

I think he might have been a court poet, or a monastic poet.

I think that since the author focused mainly on Beowulf & his heroic deeds, when Beowulf died in the story, he did not make the story dark and sad. There was a slight darkness in the end of the story, but in the VERY end of the story, the people were praising Beowulf & saying how he was the greatest & kindest king throughout all kings.

The person who wrote this to me, as obvious as it might seem, seems very religious. Throughout the whole story I could find nothing but praying and thanking the god. Also, in the beginning of the story, Beowulf seemed very confident, boastful, and even arrogant. The author might have reflected these types of character traits from his/her real life experiences from his culture. Oh, in addition to the religion thing, when Beowulf killed Grendel's mother, unlike the time he killed Grendel, he attributed merits to god. This shows the authors religious characteristic

Personally, I think that he values his culture. He, in the story, put countless cultural ideas. For instance, he vividly described the funeral in the beginning of the story and at the end of the story. People put the valuables and treasures inside the tomb, which is one of the cultures that author mentions in the story. Another culture mentioned was mead-hall. Many people gathered to mead-hall, drinking meads and wines on daily basis. In addition, people's attire, especially those worn in the war, was described in detailed manner. Clothing is part of a culture as well. Therefore, the author values Germanic culture and oral literature.
Author is also sometimes conversational in the story. He first described the story in 3rd person's point of view. But as the story progresses he started to use "I" and his thoughts in the brackets. Moreover, the author often used exclamation mark in order to amplify the mood and intensity. This type of writing is conversational with the audience.

During the class time ,we were talking about the religion of Beowulf. We infer that the author probably is a Christian, which means he is very religious because we can find there are lots of sentences related to religion, like thanks god,the Almighty father,God's will...ect.Also because his time. For the middle aged people,we all know the Christianity is a part of their life. They believe the church's teachings and observe all the church's directions. In the story and author believes good is always against evil and injustice.

So far i know that the initial author of this story is an Anglo-Saxon that is a Pagan. the author might've written this story, but orally shared the story? or the story was never written down. The translation we have, however, has many Christian allusion. As ms. boyd said, "…literature changes to fit people's needs…" Therefore, this story was passed on to generations and generations through the oral tradition and slowly modified. Eventually, when Christianity became popular, literature naturally would include elements from the Bible. Maybe we can deduce that Beowulf is such an endured poem that it is capable of surviving for a certain amount of time. The author closely associates the story with his daily life. He might've been one of the poets in the Mead-Hall, spectating and observing all the details surrounding him. In this manner, the author successfully incorporated culture into this poem.

The author seems to have deep faith and respect towards Beowulf. Along with the narration of Beowulf, the author is very proud of Beowulf's achievements. Beowulf is always portrayed as respected warrior who demonstrates true courage and virtue. When Beowulf faces decline, the author seems to express his emotion to the readers. I infer that the author is one of Anglo-Saxson's descendants.

The author of Beowulf seems to have a lot of admiration fr his character Beowulf, cause he emphasizes on Beowulf's strengths every chance he gets. He also seems to be firm believer of god.

The author of Beowulf really explains about the culture and the way people thought way back then. He explained thoroughly on how society was back then and what kind of lifestyle they had. He also focuses on traits like religious, bravery, pride, and so on and shows that such traits were highly valued in the era. Moreover, different from most of other hero stories, the hero actually dies in the end; making the story a sad ending.

Author of the story is very loyal. It seems like he or she looks up and tries to honor Beowulf as much as possible. This shows how Beowulf was important legends orally passed down in Anglo-Saxon time.

I thiknk the author of Beowulf is really religious because he mentioned about God in the story for many times. Also I think he is a little eccentric because usually in heroic story, hero doesn't die, but in Beowulf, hero died at the end.
