As i read, some characters often impresses me with an unexpected change in character while others seem to remain mysterious and "disturbing, unknown". So in this thread, we can talk about characters from either story by talking about some major events that shaped the character, character's attitude towards the objectives, character's personality…. etc.
So far, Marguerite's character from "The Scarlet Pimpernel" interests me the most. She started off depicted as an accomplished and proud women. As the plot moves on, we see her unshakable temperament change. After she encountered the Comtesse (Escaped French Aristos), Marguerite reveals something that could potentially be her weakness. Although she tried to maintain her posture, we can see that she is extremely disturbed by the French Aristocrats. At first I assumed Marguerite is just being biased and perhaps the antagonist of the story, but this though changed as the chapters proceed. Marguerite's softer dimension is revealed when she reunited with her brother Armand. That section of the story truly evoked my sympathy for Marguerite. Moreover, Marguerite suffered from loneliness since Sir Percy became extremely disappointed with Marguerite's mistake. The death of the family of Marquis wasn't Marguerite's intentions as she expresses her regret for not being thoughtful enough. Towards the ending of the reading assignment (chapter 8), Marguerite demonstrates a hero like characteristic by showing admiration for the unknown head of the Scarlet Pimpernel as she compliments the leader as having pride and heroism.
Marguerite's character shifted from being the antagonist into being the protagonist / main character! <-- my guess
One trait that repeated for Marguerite is that no matter how much she dislikes a certain group or individual, she would never intend to harm.
