Poem could be interpreted differently depending on the readers. Does knowing the background information affect what we analize the poem?
I think it really matters. If I know the background it helps me a lot to understand and guess the speaker's thought.

I agree that it matters because the time era of when they wrote the story would affect about the theme and main idea that it is trying to tell people.

Understanding the background of the literature provides us great insight into its composition. Knowing its time period and setting gives us insight into why the characters are acting how they are, of why they have certain values and do certain actions. It gives us the information we need to understand, to become the characters and see the story through their view. It is like a scope for us to look inside the novel carefully and find out all of the information it seeks to give us.

It really helps because the audience can have clue to know the message of the poem. For example, setting, time period, and history affect the context. It influences the plot, message, writing style, and the characters in that poem.

Of course, the background knowledge would make readers know why the author write the essay in that way or what big event author has experienced i ntheir life. Those things could make a huge influence on author's writting style. As for me, the answer of that is definitely Yes.
