During the Victorian era, people were repressed and were not allowed to be lust, violent, emotional, and enjoy their lives. They never gossiped, overreacted, or ruined other’s reputations. They were gentle and austere. Also, Stevenson believed that Pacific Islanders were not savages, contrary to most of Europeans at that time. He actually strove to improve relationship between Pacific Islanders and Europeans. This is important to note because colonization was going on at that time.

I learned about culture and society of Victorian times. Woman didn't have power at that time but at this time feminism started.

My literature was Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, and as everyone knows it is an adventurous and odd novel. While I was researching about it I learned that there were many symbolism hidden in the novel, such as losing innocence, death, and growing up to an adult. Also I learned some interesting facts about the background and the author. I enjoyed doing this novel because I really wanted to something written in Victorian era.

The background of my story is really normal information that we all know is sexism. I also see that many author used to write about such as "The Ruined Maid" and "Federico's Falcon". Many authors are so obsessed about this because they all know it's wrong but they still discriminate woman due to their greedy.

I learned that Oscar Wilde was pretty different and eclectic during his time period as he often wrote book that were against the norms. He included so called "immoral" materials in his books, which made many editors and publishers refuse to publish the book. Oscar ended up deleting many pages and this was the birth of the preface in the picture of dorian gray, which reveals much of Oscar Wilde's views on art.

I learned that Jonathan Swift was known for his political satires and he was hated by the British people since they did not find his humor interesting.
