Sir Gawain & Green Knight Gawain is also called Gwalchmei. He is king Arthur’s nephew and a Knight of the Round Table in the Arthurian legend. He is one of a select number of Round Table members to be referred to as the greatest Knights. In the story,Gawain is often portrayed as a formidable, courteous and also a compassionate warrior fiercely loyal to his king and family. In some works, his power waxes and wanes with the sun; in the most common form of this motif, his might triples by noon.
Summary of the story It’s Christmas time at King Arthur’s court, just when everyone’s sitting down to eat, The Green Knight, who was riding green horse and carrying an axe announces that he’s coming to test the honor of the legendary knights of the round table, and proposes a game.He wants Arthur himself to take up the challenge but his nephew,Gawain volunteers himself.Gawain brings the axe down on the Green Knight, chopping his head off. Instead of dying, the Green Knight picks up his own head, turns it to face the court, and tells Gawain to meet him at the Green Chapel in a year. One year later,on the way to Green Chapel,Gawain spent his three days staying at a castle.During these days he kisses lady who is the host of the castle. Before Gawain is leaving, the lady convinces him to accept a green belt. When he arrived the green chapel,he just realized that the green knight is the host of the castle and then the Green Knight strikes three blows. The first two blows were nothing to Gawain but the third blow the axe breaks the skin but doesn't decapitate Gawain. And Green Knights explained because he wants Gawain to be a Green Knights so he gave Gawain some temptations to test Gawain. He wants Gawain to keep in mind a girdle as a reminder of his very human sin.So the green belt means Green Knights.

King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table
King Arthur led the defense of Britain against Saxon invaders in the early 6th century with his knights. He evolved significantly during the Middle Ages in most European countries, but especially France, Germany, and England.
The Knights of the Round Table were best and special in his castle, Camelot. They had meetings by sitting around a special table in Camelot, which was round instead of rectangular. This round table meant that everyone who sat around it was seen as equal.
