Civilization is a complex society that dominates the natural environment, having hierarchy system, symbolic interaction, and etc..
However, what would happen if there was no such thing as civilization? Would it become a better world or just a chaos?
Is civilization needed?

I think civilization involves social hierarchy. Also, some kind of rule or authority exists to bring order to society. If there's no law or rule, people will be in a state of freedom. They will start to do whatever they can (worst case, kill each other) and basically commit "uncivilized" actions. Civilization is needed to limit people's freedom to a certain extent and create a peaceful, organized society for them to live in.

I agree with brandon~ civilization or some sort of societal organization is necessary to allow people to coexist together peacefully. Since every human being have human instincts that often tempts them to perform acts that aren't considered "virtuous" or "ethical" in a society. By suppressing the impulses triggered by our instincts with society created virtues, such as courage, empathy, integrity, etc, people fix each others to best suit the consensus. With communities, virtues will be formed, which will naturally form a society where people interact in a way that is possibly peaceful. Without civilization, people would naturally pursue their human instincts as individuals, striving to survive. They might be prone to kill other people to eliminate competition for resources. They might perform cold hearted acts, just so that they can survive~

Civilization is needed. in order to live harmoniously and peacefully among other people, there should be a set of rules that each has to follow. We all are humans and have natural instincts, without proper civilization, people will just do as they please which might put their relationships with other at risk. For instance, we naturally feel hungry, and one time we don't have food because we can't afford it. The natural thing to do is to grab any food you see, but that could belong to other people and when you take someone else'a that's considered stealing and you should be punished for that, that's against the civilized laws.

Civilization is necessary because living alone does not contribute to survival. Prior to the development of civilization, people moved around in small groups, hunted, and collected food. When the civilization was formed, people settled down, adopted agriculture, and domesticated animals. They didn’t have to move around and worry about food. Gradually, specialized jobs, artworks, philosophy, and unity came as an effect. If there was no civilization, then people would live separately, countries would not exist, and significant development that we enjoy today would not exist.

I think without civilization, the world is absolutely in chaos. Like thousand years ago, people follow human nature what is their instinct and apply it everything. However, their instinct MOST OF THE TIME tell them to do what is good for them. Thus, it's sometimes bad for other people around them. For example, there is a huge, muscular and violent guy who like to beat up others so no one can't do anything to him. So those beaten people gather up and beat the big one together and to avoid it to happen again. The group make a law to prevent it and it's alike with the civilization. The civilization is something which is good for most of people.

I think civilization is the most essential part of life because in civilization, people depend on one another to support one another in order to create a better society and survive. Without civilization, people will start going to die without help from one another and then lead to possible human extinction.

If there is no civilization then, then people will just be hunters that would fight against each other for food and goods. People would have became uneducated, so we would be similarly living lives like apes or more of a violent and disgraceful lifestyles. So civilization is needed to organize the basic of human beings and make sure that they are going to be like that for the rest of their lives (maybe).

Any kind of civilization is required to live in this world with limited supplies and resources. We need some kind of control and order in order to meet everyone's needs at least minimum. If all people have to compete each other to get the resources and supplies, only physically strong people will survive, and leads to atrophy of human kind.

I agree with Justin. Civilization is necessary to human society. Humans are naturally born with virtues called human nature, and most of them are the selfish kind, such as survival. If we don't have any restrictions or laws that organize these people with these human nature, there will be chaos and not that much of a peace.

Oh my gosh this reminds me of AP world history... The book actually gave us the definition of the civilization, which was how historians regarded civilization. I don't remember it well, but I can recall that in order to be a civilization, you need specialization, city, writing system (there can be exceptions), institutions and more. I believe there were approximately 6 of them. Maybe any of the AP world history students here can help me.
By they way, I think that civilization would have happen some point in the past because without civilization, we can't improve. Civilization is the result of the progression we made from the past. Since we progress as a human, we would some time in the past face the civilization and accept the new concept.
If we didn't have civilization, we wouldn't have this great technologies, wealth, ideas and more. On the other hand, we could have gotten great skills in fight or riding horses in that hunter and gatherers, who aren't often civilized, fight against each other or some tribes to protect their properties. I think it would be nightmare for me in that I am very lazy and not good at sports.

It's very hard to say, whether civilisation is needed or not, personally i dont think we can really answer it because we haven't been in uncivilised places or societies. We are spoiled by having universal rules, laws, and norms. One think i can say for sure is that World is more stable than it was before, people are now protected by laws or somewhat but back then there were absolute rules, king, etc. I think if we were to go back in an uncivilised world everything would turn into chaos because everyone will try to survive.

Yes, i agree with what brandon and justine said civilization is a needful thing in our social life. if there is no civilzation in our society, it will be really hard to communicate with other people. civialzation make our life much easier so i think we have to have civilization.

I think that civilization is necessary. Civilization has rules and limits to what can and cannot be done. IT also helps people keep in line of morality which gives it a very crucial role in human life. If there were no civilization world would probably be a chaos and people would be immoral.
