When we were discussing the question of human nature, the main issue was its flexibility: whether human nature can change or not. I shared my belief, strongly expressing it can't be changed in any circumstance. However, I was surprised how many people thought it could be changed. So I would like hear your opinions, especially for those who believe it can change.. What do you guys think?

Human nature would not change. The only thing that could make a person change is by nurture (environment and interactions with people). Human nature can not change because if you are hungry, you eat, if you are thirsty, you drink, when a danger comes, you either flee or fight. Such things like this makes up human nature and it won't change since we are all animals in the end.

I think human nature can change. It will change our culture or thinking. The environment that surrounds a woman had changed in recent years. If human nature would never change it will never happen.

Regarding to misato's reply,
Right, our views towards women have changed a lot. But has it ever been our human nature to treat women unequally? I don't think so.

It is hard to talk about the exact answer but in some ways, I personally think education and religion can change human nature. In the Chinese culture, there is a famous litterateur called Xunzi,He claims that everyone was just born our human nature is evil so human must learn through rigorous education and our human nature will be great.I don't know if that is true or not.But this is what I learned when I was In Taiwan.

I think human nature doesn't change. I think that humans naturally get hungry or thirsty, fall in love, desire comfort or warmth, reproduce, and many others. But do those human nature traits that are we all naturally have change? How can it change? Would people naturally become not hungry, thirsty, do not desire comfort, and so forth? Maybe. But then, the word "naturally" wouldn't make sense because those traits would be suppressed or controlled by our environment, possibly technology. So I think human nature doesn't and would never change.

I think that human nature is innate and is genetically engineered into humans. As discussed in class, human nature is mainly based on survival; therefore many human instincts are selfish and more self-centered to increase the percentage of survival. For instance, one would rather witness another human being starve to death and not share food, since such act of "kindness" could potentially put one in danger of starvation. Some people, however, believe that human nature can change, since some people are able to suppress such selfishness and share their food; however, such behavior isn't actually a shift in human nature, but instead, an overpowering virtue, which the society creates to best suit the community.

Human nature is all the traits/aspects we tend to have naturally as humans, such as hunger, greed, being shellfish. Why are those 'human nature'? Because I believe that human nature is all about 'survival'. Since the beginning of time, we as humans are trying to survive. So no, i think human nature doesn't change.

I do not think that human nature can change. Humans naturally have the desire to survive. In order to survive, we reproduce, eat, sleep, and get educated. We would do anything to survive even though those are selfish acts. I believe that the only thing that change the human nature is the love. Most of the people are willing to sacrifice for their family and friends because of their love towards them. Sacrificing for someone is not something that humans are born with, but our surrounding changes it.

Human nature cannot be changed. It is something innate, genetically implented in our bodies. We would be doing things that are "human nature" without even realizing. So how could we change it if something is happening without even knowing? Even though one might attempt to try to change their human nature, as the word speaks, it is something natural and therefore nobody can change it.

I think the basic nature of human beings that fulfill our needs such as eating cannot change. But how do we even define human nature these days? If we say that we can change human nature, It's probably something we created in our society because we tend to make up a lot of our own human nature qualities.

I think the basic idea of human nature never changes. The way how it is shown by humans might changed depends on the time period and the environment, but like i said, the basic of human natural never changes. Fear never changes, like fear, what humans fear in these days and what humans used fear in long times ago might look different but the basic idea, humans fears unknown things never changed.

I agree, I don't think that human nature can be changed, human nature is something that everyone has born with it's an essential part of our existence. Some people say that depending on environment where a person grows up may change his or her human nature, but clearly it's not exactly true. For ex: Every person doesn't matter the environment he or she group in would run away to survive from tsunami or a tornado because it's part of our human nature to survive. No one is perfect and whenever a person makes a mistake people often say it's ok because everyone makes mistakes, also we are humans and it's in our nature to make mistakes and right them.

I don't think human nature can change. It is something we have it with us all time, and is impossible to get rid of it. For example, I can be afraid of things, and I will be afraid of something in the future too. It's not like I will not feel fear after I overcome not being afraid of a particular thing.

I personally dont think human nature can change. In class we talked about how for some reason, we could understand all the characters from the stories we've done this quarter, despite all of them being from different time periods, and i think that that 'some reason' is the fact that human nature doesn't change. Besides, all the elements of human nature (fear, love, desire) are very fundamental things that we're born having, without being taught to do. Like for example we have to be taught to be nice, because its a value set by society, and society changes its values every so often, but since human nature is something you're born with, it'll never change.
