I agree with the concept of heroes saving people's life, but why am I only seeing the external conflict here? what about a psychologist? I think they save people's live too. They help people to deal with the problems in their life and lead them to make better decissions. People who goes to a psychologist are usually people who suffers depression, which then could lead to suicide. So I think without the help of a psychologist, a lot of deppresed people would have made the wrong decissions in their live and ends up with suicide. So my conclusion is, being a hero is not only saving ppl physically but mentally too.

I think we can call hero people who helped others and working for making others happy. We can say firefighters, rescue team for natural disaster, singers, comedians.

Personally I have agree with range of hero, but the range of hero really depends on environment you lived in. For example if you are in environment where you are taught that fire fighter, polices, soldiers, and etc are like heroes, because of the same reason for saving people, for helping neighbors, and many more. However, when you are in environment where no one is there to justify the definition of Hero, than you will know hero as someone like Super man, Bat man, etc.
Example of hero I see today will be someone that is willing to sacrifice something, in a program called gentlemen in Korea shows series of people in public places that helps old, teens, and young with different situations, and I believe they can be depicted as Hero, because in Korea for sure people tend to avoid situations that will harm them in any ways even when they face someone being kidnap they will watch and take picture, but not take actions to help them.

I also think that people who are called heroes don't necessarily have great or life-saving power. People who give inspirations and hope to people can be heroes. I think a singer can also be an example of a hero. Singers give inspiration to people. When you watch some audition programs on TV, the winners become successful and eventually become singers. And the winners often give their favorite or admiring singers a credit for completely "changing" their lives, also mentioning how terrible their lives were before. Just wanted to share

I agree with you.In the past we always think heroes have to sacrifice their themselves and attach the enemies who are evil in the world.I remember that when I was elementary school,my hero is spider man because I saw he successfully save the world and no matter how the enemies strong are them.He always can beat them so he is my hero.Time goes so fast and my concept has changed.I personally think that heroes are not limited only fighting and against the enemies now.Today my hero is Malala Yousafzai, she is a Pakistani woman. She is known for her activism for education of women and children in Pakistan. She said"I dreamt of a country where education would prevail" from this quote we can infer her faith is strong and no fear.So she is my hero.

In the past, people viewed hero as brave and strong. Nowadays, people also view hero as sympathetic, skillful, ordinary, and many more. I also think heroes are good at making decisions other than being brave. For example, Beowulf killed Grendel not only by his strengths but also his decision to act it out. Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. decided to use nonviolent protest to end their conflicts. During the 1983 Soviet nuclear false alarm incident, Stanislav Petrov decided not to launch the nuclear missile when he found out that American missiles (later identified as sun’s rays) were heading toward the Soviet Union. So I believe decision is one of the aspects of heroes nowadays.

Some examples of heros that we see today are police officers, doctors, firefighters, guardians, etc. However, in my opinion, everyone can be a hero for someone. For example, my bestfriend is a hero for me because she always makes me happy, helps me a lot, and cheers me up when I'm in the bad mood. Hero can be anything like parent, friend, teacher, pet, etc.

The constant change in the concept of hero is an inevitable result of a civilized and advanced world. The world nowadays requires more virtues than mere bravery or strength as the era of warriors is over.
I would like to highlight national athletes and call them as heroes. They represent their nations and compete to win in order to glorify people of their nations. Most people only look at fancy and superficial aspects of heroes. However, they will certainly be amazed if they understand athletes' daily routines. They practice ceaselessly to represent. Many people are healed and are consoled by their performances. Even though they may not represent warrior virtues such as bravery or excellence in fighting, they are qualified to be called as heroes from my point of view.

I agree with you, Luke. The concept of hero has changed a lot and today we call people 'hero' because of variety of reasons. Among the many, I think people who save lives of people, like firefighters and doctors are one type of hero. It doesn't necessarily need to be a certain job that is titled as a hero, a person who saved someone from committing suicide can be a hero and someone who saved a little kitten by helping it cross the street can also be called as a hero. These type of people deserved to be called heroes because they did something that only they were able to do because they were at the right time and place. If it wasn't that person who saved the life, then someone's valuable life would have been dead. The person prevented the tragedy from happening, so I think these people are heroes of today.

If you think about it, everyone could be a hero.
For example, a veterinarian could be a hero to animals. They save the lives of animals everyday. Another example, a doctor could be a hero to everyone. Just like veterinarians, they save the lives of humans everyday. A parent could be a hero to their kids. Parents support them (give shelter, provide food, provide love). They are always the greatest help when their child is in a great need of help.
These are some examples of heroes we see today, & everyday.

Hero these days is very different from the hero in Beowulf's story. These days heroes are not physically fighting, but they are chaining world in positive way, and stand up for those people who are treated unfair. However, the hero of 21th century have to be careful because they might get disadvantageous in society.

When i was a kid, i thought a heroes had superpowers, the idea that a normal person would be a hero did not evolve in me at that time. As i grew older, looking at the world in a broader perspective, i realized that a hero can be anybody who leaves an awesome impression in people's mind.

Back in the days, heroes were considered someone who has done a great accomplishment saving people from a mass killing or simply fighting the evil. However, nowadays, the concept of hero has changed a lot. We can call someone a hero even if one has not done anything big, just helping people in normal day life can also be considered hero nowadays. People who think others first rather than themselves can be seen as a hero.
