Hi guys! As you know, we will be doing the mock trial soon, and before we actually do it, I want to ask your opinions of our big question: Is Hamlet guilty?
I think Hamlet is guilty. Whether it is or not a self defense, Hamlet committed murder. He killed Polonius thinking that it was Claudius, which means Hamlet wanted to kill a person. Even though Hamlet killed the wrong person, he did it on purpose.
What do you guys think? Whether you are in a defense team, prosecution team, or even a character, I want you guys to answer fully on YOUR opinion, not on your character's.

I personally believe that Hamlet is guilty. The action he took saying its self defense can be seen as excuse. Whatever situation you end up in taking another's life is something people shouldn't do as a human. So I find hamlet guilty for killing Polonius.

I would say I think Hamlet is guilty. As you said, even though he knew he killed wrong person which is he murdered Polonius not Claudius. When he found it out.He went out with Polonius's corse instead of saying sorry. No matter what I think he is guilty.

I believe that Hamlet is guilty because he tried to kill Claudius and killed Polonius instead. Murder is a great guilt. He didn't have to revenge by killing. I think it is wrong that he decided to take revenge for her father by killing Claudius.

I think Hamlet is guilty. Even though Hamlet blames the murder to his madness (in Act 5 Scene 2), I do not agree with his opinion. Hamlet initially wanted to kill Claudius but killed Polonius accidently, which shows that the murder was on purpose. It is still his fault for not having self-control and preventing madness from influencing his action. It also seems reasonable that Laertes did not accept Hamlet’s apology at the end of this monologue because the loss of Polonius has huge impact to Laertes’s life.

I guess the key of determining whether Hamlet is guilty is this question: "Does end justify the means?"
And I believe an end does not justify the means under any circumstances. This leads to my personal conclusion that Hamlet is guilty.

I think Hamlet is guilty because any motivation cannot justify murdering. However, he has somewhat rational reason to kill Claudius, he would receive less punishment than other murderers would do.

I agree with you of Hamlet being guilty, regardless if it was Cladius under the curtains it's still a murder of a human being. Revenge could be done in so many different ways but killing or harming, in this case it's a cold blooded murder that was done willingly by Hamlet. In any case scenario he is guilty whether it was Cladius or Polonius.

I think Hamlet is guilty regardless of any justification. he isn't insane either; therefore madness can't be counted as an excuse. His action is purely a first degree murder as well as treason! He can't go around killing people just because some supposed ghost told him to do so...

I think Hamlet is guilty because he killed Claudius regardless of any reasons. A sin shouldn't be treated by another sin. thats what i think, i rather do anything to put claudius to be judge on public trial.

I think Hamlet is guilty. Even thought he really wanted to revenge he should not kill people but if I was in his place I think I don't know what I do.

He is guilty.
I think Hamlet is 100 percents guilty because he murdered people. However I think Claudius and Gertrude are also guilty. They should get punishment as well as Hamlet.

I also think that Hamlet is guilty for murdering Polonius, and Claudius. I believe that his murder was not justified even if Claudius murdered his own dad. What is Hamlet to decide one's fate? I thought in this culture, the one who could control one's destiny was god. He is the only one who could control everything. Hamlet, the normal human, has no right to decide one's death. Hamlet, by killing his own uncle and Polonius, is becoming the same as Claudius, whom Hamlet despised the most. For Hamlet himself, and for every other people, he shouldn't have planned all the revenge. Because of his plan, so many people suffered, Gertrude, Claudius, Ophelia, Laertes, Polonius, Horatio and Hamlet himself.
Hamlet, the cause of all the problem and the point of the play, is guilty for planning the revenge and murdering . He is the cause and the reason of mass death.

Do I sympathize him? Yes. Is he guilty? Of course Hamlet is guilty.
I do understand that he has gone through a lot, and must have felt a serious sense of anger, but there cannot be any doubt on the question of whether he is guilty. He is guilty because he killed. That is more than enough to conclude the question. Murder cannot be justified under any circumstances, and it applies to the play of Hamlet.

He is v much guilty. He thought Claudius was behind the curtains and intended to kill him. His mother who witnessed the whole thing, must have thought he's guilty too, since Hamlet didn't show any remorse at all.
