Hamlet is definitely a tragedy. Tragedy must end in some tremendous catastrophe involving the death of the main character and those of other characters as well. Also, "The catastrophe must not be the result of mere accident, but must be brought about by some essential trait in the character of the hero acting either directly or through its effect on other persons." (from www.shakespeare-online.com/playanalysis/tragedyvscomedy.html)

I believe Hamlet is a tragedy. Since everyone at the end dies in this story, it is certainly not a happy ending. Although Hamlet gets to revenge on Claudius, he dies at the end.

I believe Hamlet it is tragedy because everyone dies in the story. Also main chracter Hamlet got died because he gets revenge to Claudius so he died at the end.

I think that the ending is tragic because Hamlet realized that he made a horrible mistake that can't be returned and then he dies apologizing while other people are being infected by his craziness and starts dying along side by him.

I believe it's tragedy because there is nothing really funny that i know of. The whole story is very cynical and based on revenge to add some proof of it being a tragedy is the death of almost everyone at the end of the story.

I don't think it will end up with comedy... I think it will be very sad and no one will be saved and happy. I cannot wait to read the ending of this story!

It's definitely a tragedy because everyone dies in this story but i do agree that Hamlet did get what he wanted in the end. He wanted to die; done. He wanted Claudius dead; done. Although he didn't expect his mother or Ophelia to die, I believe you can't have everything you want without losing something. Which makes this story even more tragic.

I would not say that hamlet is a tragedy beacause, technically, not everybody died in the end. Horatio was alive haha. Also, since hamlet achieved his goal of taking an avenge for his father, i wouldnt say the play was a complete tragedy.

I would say that the literature can be mainly tragedy because obviously everyone dies in the end. Meanwhile, Hamlet acting mad in front of other people, Ophelia being mad, and Gertrude being like a fool can seem comic but they are actually serious and unfortunate. Therefore, this literature is tragedy, not comedy.

I think it was just chaos not tragedy. I don't understand why everyone had to die. I think the ending could be more better if Hamlet was still alive and he revenge for his father and being together with ophelia.

Well when I think about this again, did Hamlet end good for any character? If that is, then I guess it can be considered as comedy. If you insist that Hamlet and Ophelia and everyone else lived happily ever after in afterlife I think...

Everyone go to the heaven, bad people get punish. They forgive each other. Maybe it is kind of good ending. If Hamlet still alive, he will feel so sorry for people he killed, especial Ophelia. Maybe dead is the best ending for Hamlet.
