I feel like someone who's lived 30 years would have more maturity and would react an event like their father's death with more subtlety than Hamlet did. His behavior is similar to a 17 year old's reaction, down to the black clothing (emo much?) he wears in his introductory scene, and to how he constantly blames others instead of taking responsibility for his own actions, hence the theme: action vs inaction. Also, it wouldn't make sense for a 30 year old Hamlet to still be in college, nor to be dating a virgin like Ophelia.

Had Hamlet been 30 years old instead of a teenager, he would have been much more mature and less impulsive, I believe. His actions, madness, or craziness would have been much less emotional and outrageous. I personally like the teenager version better as his rage is expressed without and censorship.

I believe the age of Hamlet is around early 20s, because based on the action he takes from act 1 to act 3, he sounds very teenager. So I do agree with what mr. Edward said

I was very surprised when I heard that Hamlet is at least 30 years old, because from what he acted and said made me think that he is a teenager or early twenties. It was also surprising because back then, it was rare that someone would live so long before being a king. Claudius and Gertrude must be at least 50, which was quite unusual.

Ms Boyd claimed that Hamlet is 30 through the context.. although i didn't read the part yet… Mr Edward's claim is also convincing; however his was based on assumptions. Hamlet's mentality is similar to that of teenagers. He isn't dealing the situation with rationale and maturity.

I think age can't define Hamlet's acting. Maybe he is a babyish and immature adult man. It is not that impossible.

I feel like even though Hamlet is 30 years old, it could still make sense for him to be mad. To me, it is quite illogical for a 30 year old man to attend university and this might show that he is undereducated. This fact helps me understand why Hamlet behaves erratically even though he is 30. If he was mature, then he might just mourn for a long time and have a dilemma whether to believe the ghost or not.

I think Hanlet is not 30. By that age, he should be more mature and not act as crazy as this. The fact that he's still in college could mean that he's in his 20s

I don'T think Hamlet is that old. His behavior is not like 30years old man. It's like more childish and I don't think prince is going to school when he is 30 years old.

I belive that Hamlet is a 30 because it clearly says it in the story. With all the talks questioning that Hamlets a teenager, it doesn't make sense because it was Shakespeare himself who created the story.

My perspective is Hamlet's physical is 30 as the book said but his mental age is 18~20.As Mr. Edward said he went through 30 years old,he knows what is the 30 year-old man like.I agree with him because if your mental age is 30 then, you won't make the decision so easily.

In my opinion, Hamlet could around early twenties to his late twenties (?) After all he is still attending college, and if he was around his thirties, he would have matured up a lot. I am also thinking this, because, Yorick took care of Hamlet when he was a child...and he has been dead for a while. The oldest he could be, is his late twenties.

I think he might be 30 but some people argue that he is 18 because of his attitude. Maybe people say he's 30 to emphasize the immaturity of his age.
