This week, Mr. Edward talked to us about the controversy of Hamlet's age. Although the text gives us a clue that Hamlet is about 30 years old, he said how a 30 year old man wouldn't act like he does during the play. And I agreed with his opinion. So my question is, if Hamlet was really over 30 years old, how would he acted differently? I think that he would've acted in a very straightforward manner without planning to act all crazy and dramatic. What's your thoughts? Do you also disagree with Mr. Edward's opinion? Why or why not?

Hamlet physically might be 30 years old, but mentally he might be just in the age of the teens, which can explain why he is acting in such a way. Or maybe he became crazy after losing his father and received a strong mental damage that made him return his state of mind that of a kid. Or maybe he is just really not 30 years old and is just a teen or someone in their early twenties.

I agree with mr Edward, as i thought about Hamlet more i realised that a 30 year old guy wouldn't act like a baby. Regardless, how bad the situation is an adult and mature person would not act like a child, so i think he is 18 years old for real. Also it mentions that he is studying in Germany and what kind of 30 year old would still be studying, so it's another give away of him being a teenager. Just the way he thinks doesn't really ensures of him being an adult at least for me.

I think Hamlet's actions are justified even he was a 40 year old man. I dont really think the age matters in the circumstances of Hamlet's. Anyone would've acted crazy just like Hamlet. If the play says Hamlet is 30 yeas old, i think he is.

I think we have to consider the cultural background of Hamlet's time. A teenager in our time can be totally different from a teenager in his time. We are all simply judging his age based on our average standards when we should in fact consider the people of that time period. Who is to say that a teenager at that time was equivalent to a 30 year old at that time?

I also agree with Mr.Edward's idea because Hamlet was acting very immature to be 30 years old. I feel like he is around 20s because of how he acts and behaves when it comes to hard situations.

I agree with mr.edward. i think hamlet's age is 18-22 because. he was studying at college and as mr.edward said that no 30years man act like that. when i was reading hamlet. i also assumed that he was like 18 to 20 i never thought that he was 30ish

I believe Hamlet is about 30 years old because the way he acts matches with the age. Some people say that he moans too long for his father's death, but I don't think age makes people to judge whether someone should be sad over one's parent's death. I also think that Hamlet is quite cautious and mature about the existence of ghosts because he keeps on being careful of not taking revenge of Claudius right away because he knows that he is not sure of the ghost.

I havent really seen in the text where it actually says that Hamlet is 30. From the beginning I read Hamlet, I already suspected that he was around 20s, and the fact that he was going to Wittenberg to continue his studies just made him more like a young university student. For now, I think he's around 20s.

I guess Hamlet is like 22-25 because like Dhyia said, Hamlet wanted to go Wittenberg, which was university at that time and his crazy and nasty behavior just fits his identity as a college student, which means that he still haven't reached adulthood yet, in which he was supposed to act more maturely. In addition, Hamlet said, he loves acting in a school play, so I'm assuming that he is still college student.

i think he wouldnt kill Claudius if he was 30 years old. Even though Claudius killed King Hamlet, killing is not a good way to revenge.

I think Hamlet might be over 30 years old because Hamlet chose to do very dramatic actions. If he older than 30 years old, he might have chosen to do better way to take revenge because killing is not the best way to solve problem. He might have done better thing like punishing the claudius under the law.

I think Hamlet is a teenager because he is too whiny, OR i think he has a psychological disorder that one is not able to control its own emotion. His emotion controls Hamlet.

I think we need to consider about that time. I think that time is really different tennage time than today. I think his age was like 30 years old like what actions he did. When he was more age than 30 he will take different actions and different thoughts.
